A major police operation in Nairobi has led to the arrest of 18 Chinese nationals suspected of operating a cyber fraud network from residential apartments in the city’s Kilimani area. The action follows intelligence gathered by investigators into alleged international cybercrime activities.

According to reports, detectives raided apartments on the 18th floor of a building along Kindaruma Road, where they discovered what investigators described as an active cyber fraud workstation. Preliminary findings suggest the group allegedly targeted bank accounts outside Kenya, routed stolen funds through the country, and later withdrew the money.

The operation was carried out by officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in coordination with officials from the Chinese Embassy. Police said several suspects managed to escape before or during the raid, while the 18 arrested individuals remain in custody as investigations continue.

During the searches, investigators recovered 39 Chinese passports, 7 Malaysian passports, 11 desktop computers, 16 laptops, 26 mobile phones, routers, chargers, and other electronic devices. Officers also seized Sh293,000 in cash and 22 Malagasy ariary notes. Authorities believe the recovered equipment was used to support the alleged cyber fraud activities.

Police also searched 3 additional apartments linked to the suspects. Initial investigations indicate that members of the group had entered Kenya within the last month from countries including China, Malaysia, Cambodia, and Madagascar. Investigators are now examining the scale of the operation, possible local collaborators, and the suspects who escaped.
