IndiGo names Kanwal Jeet Singh Bakshi as CHRO to support next phase of expansion

IndiGo has appointed Kanwal Jeet Singh Bakshi as its new Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO), continuing the leadership changes under co-founder Rahul Bhatia. Bakshi, a trusted executive from InterGlobe Enterprises Pvt. Ltd., will take charge as Group Head – HR and CHRO from July 20, succeeding Sukhjit Singh Pasricha, who is stepping down after 8.5 years with the airline.

According to the company’s exchange filing, Pasricha will officially leave the company after the close of business on July 19. The leadership transition comes as IndiGo accelerates its international expansion, adds new aircraft to its fleet, and continues to grow its workforce, making the HR function increasingly important to the airline’s long-term strategy.

In his resignation letter dated June 2, addressed to Rahul Bhatia, Pasricha said his decision was driven by “professional journey and personal aspirations” following discussions over the past few months.

Reflecting on his tenure, he wrote, “Looking back on the total tenure of 8.5 years at IndiGo, I am filled with immense gratitude for the opportunities and experiences I have had here.”

He also expressed confidence in the airline’s future, stating, “IndiGo’s position as a leader in the industry is a testament to the collective passion and drive of this organization. I have no doubt that IndiGo will continue to soar to even greater heights in the years ahead.”

Pasricha further added, “My relieving date will be 19 July. I am fully committed to ensuring a smooth and seamless transition and will offer my utmost support to my successor in the days ahead.”

Bakshi’s appointment is the latest in a series of senior leadership changes since Rahul Bhatia assumed the role of interim Managing Director in March. Following operational disruptions in December that led to the cancellation of more than 4,000 domestic flights, former CEO Pieter Elbers resigned in March. Around the same time, Jason Herter, Senior Vice President of the Operations Control Centre (OCC), was relieved of his duties following a government directive and a DGCA investigation.

The airline also appointed William Walsh as its new CEO in March, with his joining scheduled for August, while Aloke Singh, former Air India Express CEO, was named Chief Strategy Officer.

In May, IndiGo announced its long-term growth roadmap, targeting nearly 200 million passengers annually, around 3,000 daily departures, and a fleet of more than 550 aircraft by 2030.
