Premlata takes charge of NTPC's HR function to drive workforce and leadership transformation

NTPC Limited promotes Premlata as its Executive Director (HR), marking a significant milestone in her career spanning more than 35 years in human resources leadership and organisational development. The appointment reflects the company’s focus on recognising internal leadership talent and strengthening its people-centric growth strategy.

Premlata joined NTPC as an Executive Trainee (Personnel) in 1990 and has since held several leadership positions across the organisation. Over the years, she has contributed to talent management, employee engagement, workforce planning, organisational development, leadership capability building, and HR transformation initiatives across multiple NTPC locations.

Her extensive experience has given her deep expertise in managing large-scale workforce operations within India’s power sector.

Before taking on her new role, Premlata served as Chief General Manager (Regional Head of HR), Western Region-II, NTPC Limited, while also holding the position of Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) at NTPC-SAIL Power Company Limited (NSPCL). In these roles, she led strategic HR programmes focused on workforce excellence, leadership development, employee experience, and organisational effectiveness.

She also served as General Manager and Additional General Manager (HR), contributing significantly to regional HR operations and talent development initiatives.

Throughout her career, Premlata has played a key role in strengthening NTPC’s people practices through initiatives focused on talent management and succession planning, leadership development, employee engagement, performance management, organisational development, workforce transformation, and HR strategy and governance. Her efforts have helped build a high-performance culture while aligning workforce capabilities with the organisation’s long-term growth objectives.

As Executive Director (HR), she will lead NTPC’s workforce strategy, leadership pipeline, employee development programmes, and organisational transformation initiatives. With the energy sector undergoing rapid technological and operational changes, her leadership is expected to support the development of future-ready talent and reinforce NTPC’s position as an employer of choice.
