India and France strengthen innovation ties with new technology roadmap

In a major step towards expanding strategic technology cooperation, India and France have jointly adopted the Innovation Roadmap 2030 during a summit held in Nice. The roadmap will serve as a long-term framework to advance collaboration in critical and emerging technologies, strengthen trusted technology ecosystems, promote academic and research mobility, and deliver practical benefits for people, sustainability, and economic growth.

The roadmap was announced following talks between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron. The initiative comes as both countries celebrate 2026 as the Year of India-France Innovation.

Both nations recognised innovation as a key driver of economic resilience, sustainable development, strategic autonomy, and technological and industrial sovereignty. They agreed that deeper cooperation in innovation can help unlock new opportunities for both countries while contributing to solutions for global challenges.

A major focus of the roadmap is co-development in advanced technologies and building stronger partnerships between research institutions, universities, startups, and industry stakeholders. The framework also aims to create trusted technology networks and encourage greater movement of researchers, students, and innovators between the two countries.

Building on the India-France declaration on Artificial Intelligence signed in February 2025, as well as the AI Action and Impact Summits hosted by France and India in 2025 and 2026 respectively, both countries have decided to make “trusted AI” a central pillar of their technology partnership.

The roadmap reflects a shared commitment to responsible innovation and stronger cooperation in emerging technology sectors. With Innovation Roadmap 2030 now in place, India and France are looking to deepen their collaboration and create long-term value through research, innovation, and technology-driven growth.
