A new chapter in India-Slovakia relations unfolded on Monday as both countries signed multiple Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) focused on labour mobility, higher education, research, culture and technology. The agreements were formalised during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s state visit to Bratislava following delegation-level discussions with Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico.
One of the key outcomes was the signing of an MoU on Cooperation in the Field of Labour Migration. The agreement aims to support the safe, orderly and legal movement of workers while improving information sharing between the relevant authorities of both countries.
“The leaders expressed support for the orderly, safe and legal mobility of skilled professionals. They took note of the Comprehensive Framework of Cooperation on Mobility agreed between India and the European Union in January 2026. They welcomed the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in the Field of Labour Migration to facilitate mobility and promote the exchange of information between the relevant authorities of India and Slovakia,” the joint statement said.
Both countries also agreed to work towards the early conclusion of a Social Security Agreement to strengthen welfare and social protection for professionals working between India and Slovakia.
In the cultural sector, the two nations signed an MoU on Audio-visual Creation to promote collaboration in film and media production. The agreement is expected to strengthen cultural ties and encourage greater people-to-people engagement.
“The leaders agreed to further promote cultural exchanges, tourism and people-to-people contacts with a view to deepening mutual understanding and strengthening the bonds of friendship between the peoples of India and Slovakia,” the statement noted.
India and Slovakia also signed an MoU on Higher Education and Research, creating a structured framework for academic cooperation and long-term institutional partnerships. The agreement will encourage greater mobility of students, researchers and faculty members, with a focus on STEM and humanities disciplines.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the agreements will enhance the mobility of professionals and skilled workers while supporting closer coordination between the two countries on global platforms.
