Google Takeout gets smarter with incremental photo and video export scheduling

Google has introduced a new feature for Google Photos that allows users to schedule exports of their photos and videos, making it easier to maintain backups beyond the platform.

The update enhances Google Takeout by enabling scheduled exports that focus only on newly added or updated content after an initial full backup. Previously, users could only export their entire Google Photos library, a process that often required significant storage space and time, especially for accounts with years of photos and videos.

Under the new system, the first scheduled export includes all selected photos and albums. Future exports will only contain content that has been uploaded, backed up, created, or edited since the last successful export. This approach helps reduce storage requirements and streamlines the backup process.

The feature is designed for users who want to maintain secondary backups, whether on local storage devices or alternative backup platforms, without repeatedly downloading their entire photo library.

Users can access the option through Google Takeout by selecting Google Photos as the export source. Scheduled exports can be configured to run every 2 months over a 1-year period, with export file sizes supported up to 50GB.

The addition provides a more efficient way for users to manage and protect their digital memories while reducing the time and resources required for regular backups.
