Vodafone advances Romania growth strategy with final Telekom Mobile integration phase

Marking a major milestone in Romania’s telecommunications sector, Vodafone Romania is scheduled to complete its merger with Telekom Romania Mobile Communications on June 30, 2026, concluding an integration process that began in October 2025.

The merger follows the acquisition of Telekom Romania Mobile Communications by Vodafone and Romanian telecom operator Digi in 2025. The transaction was valued at EUR 70 million. Under the deal, Vodafone paid EUR 30 million to acquire Telekom’s postpaid customers, business customers, retail network, technical infrastructure, and employees. Digi acquired the company’s prepaid customer base, spectrum assets, and telecommunications towers for EUR 40 million.

Following the acquisition, Vodafone began integrating Telekom’s operations, systems, and network infrastructure. “An important step in the integration process is the merger of the two companies, scheduled for the end of June 2026. As a result of the implementation of the merger, Vodafone will take over Telekom’s rights and obligations,” the company stated.

After the transaction, Vodafone’s customer base in Romania reached approximately 8.4 million, with nearly two-thirds of customers using subscription-based services. The company said customers will continue to receive existing services while benefiting from a simplified experience through consolidated contact points across stores, call centers, and digital channels.

As part of its long-term strategy, Vodafone also committed to investing EUR 150 million in Romania over the next 2-3 years to support network expansion and service enhancements.

“The implementation of the merger with Telekom represents a significant moment for Vodafone and our long-term investment journey in Romania. With the end of June 30, 2026, we enter a new stage in which we focus on network development, innovation, and strengthening interaction with our customers. We are building a unified structure, prepared to offer the best possible experience and services at the highest standards, and we continue the integration of the operations, infrastructure, and capabilities of the two companies,” said Nedim Baytorun, CEO of Vodafone Romania.
