As AI-generated videos become more realistic and harder to identify, YouTube has announced major updates to its AI content policies with the introduction of an automatic detection and labeling system for synthetic media.
The platform said the new system will automatically identify videos containing significant photorealistic AI-generated elements, even if creators fail to disclose the use of artificial intelligence manually.
According to YouTube, the updated policy is aimed at improving transparency and preventing users from being misled by AI-generated content that appears real.
The company stated that the labels will apply to content that has been “meaningfully altered or generated” using AI in ways that could confuse viewers.
For long-form videos, AI disclosure labels will appear below the video player and above the description section. In YouTube Shorts, the labels will be displayed directly as overlays on videos.
YouTube clarified that the stricter labeling rules mainly target photorealistic AI-generated videos. Content featuring obvious animation, unrealistic visuals or minor edits will continue using lighter disclosure methods inside the description section.
The company also confirmed that some labels cannot be removed manually. Videos created using YouTube’s AI tools, including Veo and Dream Screen, or content containing C2PA metadata for generative AI, will permanently carry AI labels.
Creators who believe their videos were incorrectly flagged as AI-generated can request reviews through YouTube Studio.
Alongside the AI policy update, YouTube is also rolling out a personalized content feed feature. The tool allows users to generate custom video feeds based on moods, interests or topics through text prompts.
The personalized feed system, which was under testing since late 2025, is now expanding to signed-in users in the United States across mobile and desktop platforms. The feature requires users to enable search and watch history.
The move highlights increasing pressure on digital platforms to improve transparency standards as AI-generated videos and deepfake content continue to advance rapidly.
