Police caution users against fake social media problem-solving frauds

Cyberabad Police has issued a public advisory warning citizens about the rising number of cyber fraud cases linked to online astrology, tantra and fake “problem-solving” services promoted through social media platforms.

According to the advisory, cybercriminals are targeting users through Instagram, WhatsApp and Facebook by posting advertisements that claim to offer solutions for personal issues, financial troubles, business growth, family disputes, love marriages and vasikaran services.

Police said the fraudsters initially ask victims to make small payments for consultations or rituals. Once trust is built, they begin demanding larger amounts of money under different excuses.

In several cases, victims who stopped making payments or blocked the fraudsters reportedly received threatening calls and messages. The criminals allegedly threatened to harm family members or leak personal information and photographs on social media platforms.

Authorities said the fraudsters are using fake social media accounts, fabricated images, false customer reviews and multiple bank accounts to deceive people. Police also warned that a single gang may operate multiple fake profiles under different names to target more victims.

The advisory urged citizens not to trust social media advertisements related to astrology, tantra or instant problem-solving services without proper verification.

Police also advised people not to share personal photographs, family details, bank account information, OTPs or UPI PINs with unknown individuals online.

Officials stressed the importance of verifying the identity and authenticity of any person or service before sending money through digital platforms.

The police further stated that victims of cyber fraud should immediately report incidents through the cybercrime helpline number 1930 or file complaints on the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal.

The advisory comes amid growing concerns over social engineering scams and online financial frauds targeting vulnerable users through fake digital identities and emotional manipulation.
