Artificial intelligence is rapidly changing how people consume content, with AI-generated podcasts and audio summaries emerging as one of the biggest trends in the digital space. Companies are now racing to offer tools that can turn articles, notes, and online information into conversational audio experiences.
Google’s NotebookLM was among the first platforms to introduce podcast-style Audio Overviews. Now, Spotify and Amazon are entering the space with their own AI-powered audio tools.
Spotify recently launched Studio by Spotify Labs, an experimental desktop app that uses AI agents to create personalised playlists, podcast-style briefings, daily summaries, and audio explainers. The platform studies user activity across music, podcasts, and audiobooks to generate customised content. Users can also interact with the AI through prompts to refine the experience further.
Spotify said the tool can connect with calendars, notes, inboxes, and web browsers to create context-aware audio content. For example, users planning a trip can generate travel briefings with itinerary details, restaurant suggestions, and podcast recommendations. All generated content is saved directly inside the Spotify app.
Amazon has also introduced Alexa Podcasts for Alexa+ users in the US. The feature allows users to create AI-generated podcast episodes on topics of interest. Alexa collects information, structures the content, and delivers it through AI-generated voices. Users can customise the topic, duration, and style of each episode before it is created.
According to the company, Alexa Podcasts pulls information from multiple publishers and organisations, including Associated Press, Reuters, TIME, Forbes, Politico, Business Insider, and USA Today. The tool can generate episodes around news, sports, movies, travel, hobbies, and educational subjects.
Meanwhile, Google’s NotebookLM continues to focus on research and learning-based audio summaries. Users can upload documents, research papers, notes, or articles and convert them into conversational discussions between 2 AI-generated hosts. In 2025, Google expanded Audio Overviews to support more than 50 languages, including Hindi, Urdu, Marathi, and Konkani.
While Spotify focuses on personalised listening, Amazon targets voice-based learning, and NotebookLM remains centred on research and summarisation, the larger shift is becoming increasingly clear. AI is steadily transforming into an everyday audio companion for information, learning, and entertainment.
