Kushagra Kumar elevated to Managing Director at Axis Capital

In his expanded position, Kumar will continue leading the BFSI Investment Banking franchise, focusing on strategic advisory across private equity, IPOs, and M&A transactions.

Kumar has been associated with Axis Capital for more than 2 years and most recently served as Executive Director & Head of BFSI Coverage. During his tenure, he played a major role in building a strong investment banking platform covering deal sizes from mid-market transactions to billion-dollar mandates. His leadership helped strengthen the company’s presence across PE growth deals, IPOs, and mergers & acquisitions.

Before joining Axis Capital, Kumar worked with Avendus as Director – Investment Banking, where he advised clients on complex transactions and capital-raising strategies in the financial services sector.

Earlier, he spent more than 8 years with EY, holding positions including Director and Vice President – Transaction Advisory Services. In these roles, he advised corporates on M&A, fundraising, and restructuring initiatives while leading execution of large-scale transactions.

He began his investment banking career at JM Financial, where he worked on public market transactions, private equity deals, and M&A advisory within the financial institutions group. He also gained early industry exposure through a summer role at Bank of America in the Corporate & Investment Banking division.

Kumar holds an MBA in Finance, Economics, and Strategy from Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad.
