Adobe introduces AI assistant to automate workflows across creative apps

In a move that signals a shift toward more automated creative processes, Adobe has started public testing of its new agentic Firefly AI assistant, designed to work across multiple creative applications.

Firefly, Adobe’s generative AI family, already allows users to create images, vectors, videos, and effects using text prompts. Now, the Firefly AI Assistant is being introduced as a conversational interface in beta, bringing a more integrated experience.

Unlike earlier AI integrations such as ChatGPT and Microsoft Copilot, which were limited to single apps, this assistant can operate across workflows. It integrates with tools like Photoshop, Illustrator, Lightroom, Premiere Pro, and Adobe Express.

The assistant allows users to perform tasks through natural language prompts without switching between applications. It can understand a request, break it into steps, select the right tools, and execute the process automatically. Users can step in at any point to refine outputs, accept or reject suggestions, and guide the workflow.

The AI is capable of handling complex tasks such as batch editing, creating mockups, converting images into vector formats, generating social media variations, and preparing product photos, all through guided conversations.

Reports also suggest that Adobe is developing a lighter version of the assistant that can work within third-party chatbots, starting with Claude. This comes as AI chatbots are becoming more capable of performing tasks that earlier required specialised software.

At the same time, Adobe is expanding support for external AI models inside its apps, including improved image-generation features from OpenAI. This reflects a dual strategy of building its own AI tools while integrating third-party technologies.

The company also plans to expand access to its tools through external chatbot platforms, aiming to reach a wider user base.
