In a recent cybersecurity disclosure, Itron, Inc. confirmed that an unauthorized third party accessed parts of its internal IT network during a cyberattack.

The company detected the activity on April 13, 2026, and immediately activated its cybersecurity response plan. It also notified law enforcement and engaged external advisors to investigate, contain, and remediate the incident, according to a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

Itron stated that the unauthorized activity has now been blocked, with no signs of further intrusion. The company also noted that there has been no material disruption to business operations and no immediate expectation of additional impact.

Headquartered in Washington, Itron provides technology solutions for energy and water resource management. It serves around 7,700 customers across 100 countries, manages 112 million endpoints, employs approximately 5,600 people, and reported revenue of $2.4 billion in 2025.

Given its role in critical infrastructure such as electricity grids, water systems, and gas networks, the incident raised concerns. However, the company clarified that customer systems were not affected based on current findings.

Itron also indicated that a significant portion of costs related to the incident is expected to be covered by insurance. The full scope and impact of the breach are still under investigation.

No ransomware group has claimed responsibility for the attack so far.
