Nothing launches Essential Voice feature to simplify voice-to-text communication across devices

In a move towards more natural smartphone interactions, Nothing has launched a new feature that allows users to turn spoken words into clean, structured text instantly.

Called Essential Voice, the feature is part of Nothing’s Essential AI tools and focuses on voice-based input. Instead of typing, users can simply speak and receive properly formatted text in real time, making communication faster and more intuitive.

Essential Voice goes beyond basic voice typing. It does not just transcribe speech word-for-word but refines it by removing filler words like “um” and “uh,” correcting sentence structure, and delivering output that looks like well-written text. The feature can be activated by long-pressing the Essential Key or directly from the keyboard on supported Nothing smartphones. It works within apps where users usually type, removing the need to switch tools.

The system automatically cleans up spoken input to improve clarity and flow. According to the company, the feature only works when manually activated and does not run in the background. When in use, audio is encrypted and processed on the server, and the final text is sent back to the device. The company states that neither audio nor text is stored on servers.

Essential Voice also includes auto-correction tools and supports personal mappings. These allow users to create shortcuts for frequently used phrases, links, or formats by assigning them to specific spoken commands.

Another key feature is translation. Users can speak in one language and generate text in another, with support for over 100 languages and automatic detection, including regional variations. This makes it useful for multilingual communication without needing additional apps.

Currently, Essential Voice is available on Nothing Phone 3. It is expected to roll out to Phone 4a Pro later this month and Phone 4a in early May. Future updates may introduce context awareness, allowing the feature to adjust responses based on usage, such as messaging or emails. The company also plans to expand this capability across its broader device ecosystem.
