Vodafone Idea reported a modest improvement, adding 1.03 lakh subscribers in March, compared to 21,927 additions in February.
Meanwhile, BSNL added 17,095 users during the month, recovering from a loss of 1.02 lakh subscribers in February, indicating a return to growth.
Overall, the telecom sector added 8.43 million mobile subscribers in March, up from 6.40 million in the previous month, reflecting improved momentum across operators.
Separately, TRAI has initiated consultations on enabling direct satellite-to-mobile communication services to enhance connectivity in rural and remote regions. The regulator is seeking views on whether Direct-to-Device (D2D) services should operate through spectrum allocated for mobile satellite services or use existing 4G and 5G airwaves.
The move aims to bring satellite communication closer to parity with traditional telecom networks, as several remote areas in India continue to remain underserved.
