In a focused crackdown on financial fraud networks, cybercrime police in Cyberabad have begun targeting mule account holders linked to multiple cybercrime cases across India.
Authorities have registered 15 cases against such account holders across different banks. These cases were initially filed at local police stations and later transferred to the Cyber Crime Police Station for further investigation.
The action follows a statewide analysis of data from the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal (NCRP) and suspicious bank accounts identified by the Telangana Cyber Security Bureau (TGCSB). Officials found several accounts repeatedly linked to cybercrime complaints across multiple states.
Based on the number of complaints associated with each account, police have started registering criminal cases.
In one instance, a private bank account in Madhapur, opened in the name of an investment solutions company, was flagged in 21 cases across the country. Investigations revealed transactions worth Rs 296 crore over 3 years through this account. A case has been registered against the company.
In another case, a bank account under the name of an IT solutions company was linked to 15 cases, with fraudulent transactions amounting to Rs 3.3 crore.
An individual, P Avinash, was also booked for operating a private bank account flagged in 35 cases. Police found transactions worth Rs 3.04 crore linked to this account.
Police teams will now identify the account holders and take appropriate legal action against them.
