OnePlus unveils smartphone that transforms into a portable gaming console

Blurring the line between smartphones and gaming devices, OnePlus is introducing a new approach to mobile gaming with its upcoming device.

Ahead of its April 28 launch, the company has confirmed that the OnePlus Ace 6 Ultra will not just function as a gaming smartphone but can also transform into a handheld gaming console using an attachable gamepad.

The device can be slotted directly into the controller, creating a console-style experience instead of relying only on touchscreen controls. OnePlus is focusing on ergonomics, with the controller designed to offer a grip similar to traditional handheld gaming devices.

The controller features customizable button mapping and includes 4 physical buttons. This setup allows users to move beyond standard 2-thumb gameplay and use more advanced multi-finger controls.

On the performance side, the controller is equipped with micro-mechanical switches that support a 1000Hz polling rate and a 1.8ms response time, aiming to deliver faster and more precise inputs.

Additional accessories include a detachable magnetic cooling fan to manage heat during long gaming sessions. The setup also comes with a built-in gaming antenna for improved signal strength and a bottom-positioned USB-C port, allowing users to charge the device while playing.

The smartphone itself is backed by high-end specifications. It is expected to feature a 6.78-inch 1.5K flat display with a 165Hz refresh rate, powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 9500 chipset. The device will also include an 8600mAh dual-cell battery with 100W fast charging support.
