In a major update to its platform, Canva has introduced AI 2.0 at its annual Create keynote, adding new conversational AI and web app features to make designing more interactive and user-friendly.

The company highlighted its growing focus on in-house AI development. Co-founder Cameron Adams shared that tools like the background remover and the acquisition of Leonardo.ai have strengthened Canva’s capabilities. The company now has over 100 researchers working on advancing its technology.

The latest update aims to simplify the design process by allowing users to interact with AI in a more natural and intuitive way. These features are expected to improve both speed and creativity for users across skill levels.

Canva is also focusing on affordability. Co-founder Cliff Obrecht said the company is committed to keeping its tools accessible, especially for free users.

He noted that Canva’s in-house AI models, such as Proteus and Lucid Origin, are designed to be faster and more cost-effective compared to competitors.

The company is also working on bringing more AI capabilities directly onto user devices. This approach is expected to improve privacy and reduce costs, while maintaining performance.

The update reflects Canva’s strategy to combine advanced AI with accessibility, making creative tools easier to use without increasing costs for users.
