In a recent cybersecurity incident, Booking.com has started notifying users about a data breach that may have exposed their personal and booking-related information.
Several users reported receiving warning emails from the platform. One user said, “I got sent this e-mail 12 hours ago from booking.com (twice – for 2 different bookings).” The company stated that it detected suspicious activity affecting a number of reservations, which led to an internal investigation.
According to the findings, the accessed data may include booking details, names, email IDs, addresses, phone numbers, and any information shared with the property during reservations.
“To keep your booking secure, we’ve updated the PIN number of your reservation,” the company said, while also warning users to stay alert for possible phishing attacks.
There are signs that such attacks may already be taking place. A user reported receiving a WhatsApp message that included “booking details and personal information.” The same user later confirmed receiving 3 emails from the platform, all linked to bookings made in the past week, suggesting that recent reservations may have been specifically targeted rather than entire accounts.
The user also clarified that they were a “standard customer” who made bookings through the website interface.
Booking.com is among the most widely used travel platforms globally, recording over 560 million visits per month. It offers listings across more than 220 countries and territories, covering millions of properties including hotels, apartments, homes, and other accommodation types.
Due to its scale, the platform has remained a frequent target for cybercriminals. In mid-January 2026, reports had highlighted that “hundreds of Dutch travelers” were defrauded after hackers hijacked their accounts.
The latest incident highlights ongoing risks in digital travel platforms and the importance of staying cautious while sharing personal information online.
