Marking a tribute to India’s space ambitions, the Department of Posts India under Karnataka Postal Circle has unveiled commemorative postage stamps and souvenir sheets in Bengaluru to honour Indian Space Research Organisation.
The release highlights India’s journey from early satellite launches to advanced space exploration and upcoming human spaceflight missions. The stamps symbolise the nation’s progress from its first satellite, Aryabhata, to the ambitious Gaganyaan programme.
The design captures key milestones in India’s space journey while also reflecting its scientific heritage. Elements such as Jantar Mantar are featured, representing the country’s long-standing tradition of astronomy and scientific inquiry.
These stamps serve not only as collectibles but also as symbols of India’s scientific evolution and future vision in space exploration.
Gaganyaan, led by ISRO, aims to send Indian astronauts, known as Gaganyatris, to Low Earth Orbit for a short-duration mission and safely return them to Earth. The mission is expected to make India the 4th nation after the US, Russia, and China to achieve independent human spaceflight capability.
ISRO has also announced plans to establish an Indian Space Station. The station will include 52-tonne modules, with the first module targeted for launch by 2028.
This initiative is expected to enable long-duration space research, strengthen India’s orbital infrastructure, and support future deep space missions, marking a significant step in the country’s journey as a global space power.
