In a strategic move to strengthen innovation, Yogi Adityanath announced that Uttar Pradesh is working towards becoming the country’s “Deep Tech Capital” under the vision of “Innovate in UP, Scale for the World”.
During a high-level review meeting, the Chief Minister emphasised the need for “concrete, result-oriented and time-bound action”. He called for stronger collaboration between research institutions and industry to ensure innovations are implemented at scale and generate employment.
A detailed presentation was delivered by Manindra Agrawal, Director of IIT Kanpur, highlighting ongoing and upcoming initiatives. Officials shared that the Gangwal School of Medical Sciences and Technology at IIT Kanpur is developing med-tech solutions, with a proposal already submitted to the Medical Education Department. The institute is expected to begin operations in November.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister also reviewed plans for a Centre of Excellence in green hydrogen. He directed officials to speed up work on production, storage, testing, safety standards, and industrial applications, calling the project important for the state’s energy future.
Discussions also covered the establishment of what officials described as the country’s first institutional centre for internationally recognised clinical validation in Ayurveda. The facility aims to build scientific evidence for Ayurvedic medicines, strengthen lab research, and promote the use of herbal resources.
Highlighting the importance of drone technology, Adityanath said the state should become a hub for indigenous drone manufacturing and research, especially for defence needs. He also stressed advancing research in quantum technology, calling it a “transformative technology of the future”.
On startups, officials noted that IIT Kanpur has incubated several globally recognised ventures. Efforts are underway to provide patent support and scale innovations internationally. The Chief Minister urged further strengthening of the innovation ecosystem.
The proposed ‘UP Deep-Tech Hub’ in Noida Uttar Pradesh India will act as a central platform connecting startups, research institutions, and industry. He directed the development of world-class infrastructure and suggested a model of “research at IIT Kanpur, expansion and deployment from Noida”.
Progress in cyber security initiatives was also reviewed, including work at the Cyber Security Technology Translation Research Park aimed at enhancing digital infrastructure.
Adityanath instructed officials to ensure timely execution of all projects through better coordination and faster decisions, positioning Uttar Pradesh as a leader in deep-tech innovation.
