Campbell Wilson exits Air India CEO role ahead of contract end, successor search underway

Air India is set for a leadership transition as Chief Executive Officer Campbell Wilson has stepped down from his role, even as his contract was scheduled to run until July 2027.

According to sources, Wilson has resigned midway through his 5-year tenure. However, he will continue in the position until a successor is identified and appointed, ensuring continuity in leadership during the transition.

Wilson was appointed as CEO and Managing Director (MD) of Air India in 2022. His tenure marked a key phase in the airline’s transformation journey.

With over 30 years of experience in the aviation industry, Wilson has held leadership roles across both full-service and low-cost carriers. Before joining Air India, he served as CEO of Scoot, the low-cost subsidiary of Singapore Airlines.

He began his career with Singapore Airlines in 1996 as a Management Trainee in New Zealand. Over the years, he worked across multiple international markets, including Canada, Hong Kong, and Japan.

In 2011, Wilson returned to Singapore as the founding CEO of Scoot, a role he held until 2016. He later served as Senior Vice President – Sales & Marketing at Singapore Airlines, overseeing key functions such as pricing, distribution, eCommerce, brand, global sales, and overseas operations.

In April 2020, he took on a second stint as CEO of Scoot before moving to Air India in 2022.

Wilson holds a Master of Commerce (First Class Honours) in Business Administration from the University of Canterbury, New Zealand.

His exit comes at a crucial time for Air India, raising questions around the airline’s next phase of leadership as it continues its ongoing transformation.
