In a move set to simplify digital payments for developers, Razorpay has partnered with OpenAI to allow payment integration directly within applications using Codex.
The collaboration enables developers to embed payment systems without setting up separate infrastructure. The integration supports UPI and other payment methods and operates through Razorpay’s MCP Server, allowing Codex to generate applications with built-in payment flows from a simple prompt.
“Instead of spending days setting up payment systems, developers can simply ask AI to add payments while building their app,” Razorpay said.
Shashank Kumar, Co-founder and Managing Director of Razorpay, said, “The next generation of startups won’t begin with funding or infrastructure, they’ll begin with a prompt.”
Oliver J., Managing Director, International at OpenAI, added, “integrating Razorpay directly into Codex means builders can now go from idea to product to revenue in a single workflow.”
In a separate launch, Razorpay has also introduced an application within ChatGPT that allows businesses to manage payments using conversational queries. This includes tasks such as reconciling transactions, checking refunds, and tracking settlements.
The development comes as India handles more than 20 billion UPI transactions every month and has around 17 million developers on GitHub.
Razorpay said the launch builds on its work in AI-led commerce, including agentic payment systems developed in collaboration with the National Payments Corporation of India.
