Amid growing pressure on global supply chains, Sony Japan has temporarily suspended orders for its CFexpress and SD memory cards due to a worldwide shortage of solid-state memory.
The shortage is being driven by rising demand from AI technologies and supply challenges linked to helium availability following the Iran conflict. As a result, products such as CFexpress Type A and Type B, along with SDXC and SDHC cards, are expected to remain difficult to access for some time.
Sony stated that while production will continue for select models, including the 960GB CFexpress Type B card, restocking of most popular variants may not happen in the near term.
The impact of these supply constraints is not limited to storage products. The company has also increased the price of its PlayStation 5 by $100, reflecting broader economic pressures affecting the global technology sector.
This situation highlights how rising demand for advanced technologies and geopolitical factors are influencing product availability and pricing across the industry.
