Axis Bank enables mobile number update via Aadhaar face authentication on app

In a move to simplify customer services, Axis Bank has introduced a new feature that allows users to update their registered mobile number using Aadhaar-based face authentication on its mobile banking app. The entire process is digital and does not require a branch visit.

Customers can complete the update by verifying their identity through a live facial scan linked to Aadhaar, followed by OTP confirmation. The bank said this feature is designed to make a routine update easier while maintaining secure identity verification.

To update the mobile number, users need to follow these steps on the Axis Bank Open app:

  • Enter the new mobile number to be registered.
  • Open the AadhaarFaceRD app available on the Play Store.
  • Complete Aadhaar-based face authentication by capturing a live image using the front camera.
  • Enter the one-time password sent to the new mobile number to confirm the update.

The bank explained that the system verifies identity by matching the live facial image with records stored in the Aadhaar database. As an added security measure, mobile banking transaction limits are temporarily reset to default levels for the first 24 hours after the update, once the user logs in again.

Axis Bank also stated that this feature is available as a self-service option on its mobile app. Customers who prefer offline assistance can still visit a branch for support.

With this update, the bank is aiming to offer a faster and more convenient way for users to manage account details while ensuring security through Aadhaar-based authentication.
