Bluesky has unveiled Attie, an AI-powered assistant designed to help users customise their social media experience and create personal feeds with ease. Currently in an invite-only beta, Attie allows users to “vibe-code” applications, build algorithms, and explore feeds tailored to their interests without requiring technical expertise.
Built on the Authenticated Transfer Protocol (atproto), a decentralised open-source network, Attie enables users to maintain their identity and data across apps. For example, someone could switch from Bluesky to another atproto-based app while retaining followers, posts, and personalised content. “Attie was designed by the Bluesky team to pull down that barrier, and make feed-building as easy as chatting. You describe what you want, and it makes a customised feed for you,” the company said.
Attie is powered by Anthropic’s Claude AI and functions as a standalone product separate from the existing Bluesky app. Users can type natural language instructions to generate customised feeds based on past interactions, preferences, and interests. The assistant can also offer personalised suggestions by accessing shared data across the network. Over time, Attie is expected to expand its capabilities, potentially allowing users to create new social apps or tools for others.
The launch comes after recent leadership changes at Bluesky, with Jay Graber moving from CEO to chief innovation officer and Toni Schneider serving as interim CEO. Attie was officially introduced at the Atmosphere conference, where attendees became the first beta testers. Graber emphasised that AI should serve users rather than platforms: “An open protocol puts this power directly in users’ hands. You can use it to build your own feeds, create software that works the way you want it to, and find signal in the noise.”
For now, Attie remains in private beta, with a long-term business model yet to be finalised. Options being considered include subscription plans or hosting services for users wanting to manage communities on the atproto network. Bluesky describes Attie as a step toward a new kind of social interface focused on personalisation and user control.
