In a key development for the autonomous mobility space, Pony.ai has achieved its first profitable quarter and is now gearing up to expand its robotaxi operations to over 20 cities worldwide.
The company reported a net income of $75.5 million, marking a turnaround from previous losses. However, a significant portion of this profit came from investment gains rather than its core robotaxi business.
Despite that, Pony.ai’s core operations are showing steady progress. The company has seen rising robotaxi usage, with revenue growth and a notable reduction in losses over the past year.
As part of its growth strategy, Pony.ai plans to deploy more than 3000 robotaxis across 20+ cities in 2026. The expansion will be driven through partnerships, enabling faster scaling while optimizing costs.
Nearly half of these deployments are expected to be in international markets, highlighting the company’s global ambitions, including expansion into regions such as Europe and the Middle East.
Pony.ai is also strengthening collaborations with partners like Toyota to support vehicle production and accelerate commercialization. Its approach combines autonomous technology with partner-led fleet operations to improve capital efficiency.
The company has already achieved unit-level breakeven in select cities, signaling progress toward sustainable operations as the robotaxi sector moves closer to large-scale adoption.
With competition intensifying in autonomous mobility, Pony.ai’s profitability and expansion plans reflect a broader shift from pilot projects to real-world, scalable deployment.
