In a key development for India’s defence manufacturing sector, Bharat Dynamics Limited has completed the first-off production model of the Advanced Akash Weapon System. The milestone was disclosed through a regulatory filing under Regulation 30 of the SEBI (LODR) Regulations, 2015.
The achievement marks a transition from the development stage to full-scale manufacturing of the upgraded air defence system. The Advanced Akash Weapon System includes enhanced sub-systems designed to improve performance and strengthen the combat capabilities of the Indian Armed Forces.
The system has demonstrated high precision in targeting diverse aerial threats, reflecting Bharat Dynamics’ ability to deliver complex and advanced defence technologies. This milestone reinforces India’s push toward strengthening indigenous defence production.
With the completion of the production model, deliveries of the system are expected to begin shortly. This indicates that the platform has met the required specifications and quality benchmarks for deployment.
The development signals operational readiness and represents a significant step in equipping the armed forces with locally manufactured defence systems. It also aligns with India’s broader objective of achieving greater self-reliance in defence and reducing dependence on imports.
