In a major crackdown, Delhi Police have exposed a multi-state cyber fraud syndicate linked to scams worth ₹10.6 crore across 89 complaints, targeting citizens through deception and fear-based tactics.
The network carried out frauds involving digital arrests, fake IPOs, and online trading schemes. Victims, including elderly individuals, were manipulated using social engineering, false promises, and psychological pressure.
In one case, an elderly couple was allegedly kept under mental pressure for nearly 1 week by fraudsters posing as officials from TRAI and CBI. The victims were forced to transfer ₹20 lakh. Police found that ₹18.5 lakh was routed to a bank account operated by accused Shashikant Kumar, who was later arrested from Ranchi. His account was linked to 35 complaints involving nearly ₹2 crore.
In another case, a victim lost ₹7.79 lakh through a fake IPO scheme run via a fraudulent mobile app. Accused Khalid Tyagi was arrested from Roorkee while attempting to flee abroad. His account was connected to 25 complaints involving over ₹4 crore.
A third case involved accused Sachin Mittal, arrested from Shahdara, who lured investors with promises of high returns through fake trading platforms. His accounts were linked to 24 complaints worth over ₹1 crore.
In a separate digital arrest and SIM misuse case, 3 accused — Asif, Nitin Saini, and Virender Mukkhiya — were arrested during raids across Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Delhi. Police reported 100% recovery of funds in this case.
Officials confirmed that investigations are ongoing, with efforts focused on identifying wider networks. Interrogations of the arrested individuals are currently underway.
Experts noted that such cases highlight growing risks in cyber security and online investments. They warned that elderly individuals are especially vulnerable, as fraudsters use advanced techniques and technology to deceive victims.
Authorities have urged citizens to remain cautious while sharing personal information or making digital financial transactions. Analysts added that public awareness and vigilance are as important as technical safeguards in preventing such crimes.
This action by Delhi Police highlights the need for strict enforcement and awareness to tackle cyber fraud across states.
