In a step towards smarter agriculture, IIT Ropar’s Annam AI has announced a nationwide weather intelligence initiative, starting with the deployment of 100 free AI-powered weather stations in Punjab.
These stations will provide farmers with hyperlocal, real-time weather updates. The aim is to help them make better decisions on planting, irrigation, and crop protection, improving overall farm efficiency.
Along with the rollout, Annam AI is also introducing a fully funded AI training programme for 10,000 students, rural youth, and agri-professionals. The initiative is focused on building digital skills to address climate risks and improve agricultural productivity.
Speaking at the Smart Agri Summit 2026, Project Director Pushpendra Singh highlighted the vision behind the initiative. He said the platform aims to combine real-time data with scientific insights to make farming more productive, sustainable, and climate-resilient.
The dual approach of technology deployment and skill development is expected to support farmers in adapting to changing weather patterns while preparing the next generation for tech-driven agriculture.
