In a step to improve user experience, OpenAI has rolled out a new feature called Library in ChatGPT, making it simpler to manage and reuse uploaded files.
The feature acts as a central storage space where users can view all previously uploaded files. It removes the need to upload the same files repeatedly, allowing users to quickly attach them during conversations.
Announcing the update on X, OpenAI said, “It’s now easier to find, reuse, and build on the files you upload and create in ChatGPT.” The Library option is available in the main menu, where users can access documents, images, spreadsheets, presentations, and other file types.
Users can also access files directly within a conversation by selecting the attachment icon and choosing the “Recent files” option. This shows the last 3 uploaded files, making it easier to reuse them in the same or new chats.
The Library is available through the sidebar, where users can browse all stored files in one place. It also includes a search bar and filters to help locate files based on type or upload status. This is particularly useful for users who frequently upload large volumes of files.
OpenAI said the feature is currently rolling out to paid users, including ChatGPT Plus, Pro, and Business subscribers. It will be available in most regions, except the European Economic Area, Switzerland, and the UK.
Files stored in the Library remain saved until manually deleted. Deleting a conversation does not remove the file. Users must delete files directly from the Library tab using the trash icon. Once deleted, files are immediately removed from the account and are permanently deleted from servers within 30 days.
