Oracle integrates AI agents into Fusion suite to transform enterprise workflows

Amid growing adoption of artificial intelligence in enterprises, Oracle is revamping its cloud-based financial software to work with AI agents that can handle tasks and support business decisions.

The update, expected to be announced at an event in London on Tuesday local time, reflects a wider shift in the industry. Software providers are redesigning specialised corporate tools so AI agents can perform tasks on behalf of human users.

Oracle’s shares are down about 40% this year, as investors worry that AI tools could replace complex business software. However, the company has said it is actively adopting AI to keep its products relevant and competitive.

As part of this effort, Oracle is upgrading its Fusion software suite. This platform manages key business functions such as factory production planning and customer payments. The goal is to allow users to ask business questions, while AI identifies and gathers the required data.

Steve Miranda, executive vice president of applications development at Oracle, said the focus is to simplify decision-making. This includes questions like how to make a new product design cheaper and faster, while reducing risks linked to supply chain disruptions.

He explained that important data is often spread across multiple applications within Oracle’s system and third-party tools. AI will take over tasks such as data entry, collection, and analysis, and also provide recommendations. Human roles will shift toward skills like supplier negotiation and evaluating risk tolerance in supply chains.

“Typing in an invoice isn’t a particularly high-value skill to your enterprise or to the person you know who does that part of their job,” Miranda said.

“Decision making is still kind of up to that human and weighing the different pros and cons of that case. But certainly the execution, the typing of the invoices, the typing of the purchase order, that is what is going to be replaced in whole in AI.”
