MeitY accelerates rollout of 50 AI data units across government departments

In a move to strengthen India’s AI ecosystem, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) is fast-tracking the setup of 50 AI curation units across various government departments.

These units will focus on analysing non-personal government data, including health statistics, crop surveys, and maps, to identify valuable datasets for the IndiaAI Datasets Platform, AIKosh.

The initiative began nearly 2 years ago but faced delays as some ministries relied on their own systems. Now, the remaining 20 units are expected to be launched soon, bringing the project closer to full implementation.

MeitY aims to use this effort to improve public services and decision-making. By combining scattered datasets from different departments, the government plans to build more effective AI models that can deliver real-world impact.

Officials believe that integrating such data will support better outcomes in key sectors like healthcare, agriculture, and logistics. It will also help in making more informed and data-driven decisions.

The initiative is part of India’s broader strategy to use technology for governance, innovation, and public benefit.
