In a step towards improving the safety of artificial intelligence, a Gujarat-based neuro-engineering deep-tech company has developed a new solution designed to monitor and control AI-driven actions before they are executed.
The company has created an “AI Action Firewall”, which acts as a policy-based safety layer between AI systems and real-world operations. This system ensures that every action performed by AI is authorised, monitored, and recorded. A firewall is typically a network security system that manages incoming and outgoing traffic based on predefined security rules.
“The concept draws inspiration from traditional firewalls but is designed specifically to regulate AI-driven actions such as sending emails, executing code, accessing databases or triggering automated workflows,” Saurabh Patel, founder and CEO of NeuroPause Lab Limited, said while speaking to reporters.
The company applied for a global patent for this technology last year, and the process is currently underway. Under this system, every AI action is evaluated against predefined policies and classified as “allow”, “review” or “block”.
Routine and low-risk actions can proceed automatically. However, high-risk actions will require human approval, while unauthorised actions will be stopped completely. Patel added that all decisions taken by the system will be recorded to create a permanent audit trail. This will help organisations maintain transparency, accountability, and meet regulatory requirements.
He also pointed out that most existing cybersecurity systems are built to manage human users. These systems are not equipped to handle autonomous AI agents, which makes the need for a dedicated control layer more important.
This development highlights the growing focus on building safer and more accountable AI systems as their use continues to expand across industries.
