Roscosmos Progress 92 departs ISS for planned re-entry

A Roscosmos cargo spacecraft has completed its mission at the International Space Station and begun its return sequence for disposal.

The uncrewed Progress 92 spacecraft undocked from the ISS at 9:24 a.m. EDT on Monday. It moved away from the station to carry out a deorbit manoeuvre, followed by a planned destructive re-entry into Earth’s atmosphere. The spacecraft was loaded with waste materials from the crew, which will be safely burned up during re-entry.

Progress 92 was launched in July 2025 aboard a Soyuz rocket from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan. It carried around 3 tons of essential supplies, including food and fuel, for astronauts aboard the space station.

After a 2-day journey, the spacecraft reached the ISS and autonomously docked to the space-facing port of the Poisk module. It remained attached to the station during its operational period, supporting crew needs before being filled with disposal cargo.

The departure marks the end of its resupply mission and follows standard procedures for cargo spacecraft, which are routinely used to deliver supplies and remove waste from the orbiting laboratory.
