Chrome for Android introduces desktop-style bookmarks bar for easier access

In a move to enhance browsing on larger screens, Google has rolled out a new update to Google Chrome on Android, bringing a desktop-like bookmarks bar to the mobile browser experience.

The new feature allows users to access saved bookmarks directly below the address bar. This makes it quicker to open frequently visited websites without navigating through multiple menus, especially on Android tablets and foldable devices.

The bookmarks bar functions similarly to its desktop version. It appears just below the Omnibox and displays bookmarks with both favicons and website names. Users who organise bookmarks into folders will also see these folders in the bar, which can be opened inline without leaving the current page.

If there are more bookmarks than can fit on the screen, a right-facing chevron icon appears at the end of the bar. Tapping this option reveals additional saved items.

Chrome also offers an “All bookmarks” option, which opens the full-screen bookmarks interface. This gives users another way to browse and manage their saved links. Additionally, users can long-press any bookmark in the bar to view the full URL of the page.

The feature is designed mainly for larger screens. On smaller devices like smartphones, the bookmarks bar remains hidden by default.

The update is being rolled out with version 146 of Chrome for Android. Users can enable the bookmarks bar by going to Settings > Appearance > Show bookmarks bar within the browser. If the Appearance menu does not show up immediately, users may need to force stop the app from the device’s App info settings and reopen it.

This update is part of Google’s broader effort to make Chrome on Android tablets and foldables closer to the desktop browsing experience.
