MacBook Neo teardown reveals a more repair-friendly design than recent Apple laptops

Apple’s newly launched MacBook Neo is drawing attention not only for its price and performance but also for its repair-friendly design. A recent teardown video suggests that the laptop could be one of the most repairable MacBook models introduced by Apple in several years. The analysis indicates that the device uses a modular internal layout with very little adhesive, making several components easier to replace.

A teardown shared by the Australian YouTube channel Tech Re-Nu shows the laptop being opened and partially dismantled in about 6 minutes. The aluminium chassis can be accessed by removing 8 screws from the bottom panel, a design approach similar to the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro. Inside the device, the components are secured using standard Torx screws including T3, T5 and T8. The internal structure follows Apple’s typical clean layout, with neatly arranged cables and a relatively small motherboard surrounded by fewer components compared to other MacBook models.

One of the most notable findings in the teardown is the limited use of adhesive. In recent years, Apple has used pull-tabs and adhesives to secure internal components in many devices. However, the MacBook Neo appears to use almost no tape or glue across its internal assembly. This design choice could make repairs easier compared with many earlier MacBook models. The laptop also includes modular parts such as the 2 USB Type-C ports, speakers and the 3.5mm headphone jack, all of which can be removed and replaced individually. For example, each speaker is secured with just 4 screws and can be removed without dealing with adhesive.

The teardown only revealed a small amount of adhesive used on the trackpad cable connection linking the trackpad to the logic board. Although the device was not fully dismantled in the video, Apple has released an official repair manual for the MacBook Neo confirming that the keyboard can be removed separately. This marks a shift from Apple’s high-end MacBooks, where the keyboard and battery are usually part of a single top-case assembly that must be replaced together. The MacBook Neo is also included in Apple’s Apple Self Service Repair initiative, allowing customers to repair the laptop at home using official tools, genuine parts, diagnostic support and rental tool kits without visiting an authorised service centre.
