Authorities in Tamil Nadu have uncovered a cybercrime network allegedly involved in laundering nearly ₹100 crore obtained through online fraud. The operation was carried out by a 7-member gang that reportedly converted the stolen money into cryptocurrency and transferred it to offshore syndicates.
The Tamil Nadu Cyber Crime Wing conducted the operation and arrested members of the group operating from Sathirakudi village and Paramakudi in Ramanathapuram district. Investigators revealed that the network had links to an international cybercrime operation.
One of the key accused has been identified as Pradeep, 35, a police constable from Ramanathapuram. He was serving in the 12th Battalion at Manimuthar in Tirunelveli district at the time his alleged involvement came to light.
According to police sources, Pradeep is suspected to have played an important role in the racket. Authorities plan to question him further to understand how he became part of the cybercrime network and how he acquired the technical knowledge needed to carry out such operations.
Following the discovery of his alleged role in the case, Pradeep has been placed under suspension. Officials stated that further investigation will focus on identifying the extent of his involvement and the structure of the wider network.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the group had been running the operation for more than 1 year. During this period, the gang allegedly converted large amounts of fraudulently obtained money into cryptocurrency and moved the funds to overseas syndicates.
The Cyber Crime Wing is continuing its investigation to trace the full network and identify other individuals who may be connected to the international cyber fraud operation.
