Google is expanding its artificial intelligence tools to more countries by bringing Gemini integration in the Chrome browser to users in India, Canada and New Zealand. Announced on Wednesday, the rollout allows desktop users to access the Gemini AI assistant directly through a sidebar while browsing, enabling them to ask questions about on-screen content and interact with multiple Google services without leaving the page.
With this feature, users will notice an “Ask Gemini” icon appearing on the Chrome tab bar. By clicking it, they can ask the AI chatbot to summarize webpages, generate quizzes to better understand topics, or answer questions about the content currently open in the browser. Gemini can also analyse information across multiple tabs, making it easier for users to compare products while shopping online or review travel ticket options.
Google has also expanded language support with this rollout. Along with English and other Chrome-supported languages, Gemini in Chrome will now work with Hindi, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Telugu and Tamil. The company originally introduced Gemini in Chrome in the U.S. in September through a floating window, before launching the sidebar-based tools earlier this year.
The assistant can also connect with several Google apps to provide contextual responses. Gemini can access Gmail, Maps, Calendar, YouTube, Keep and Drive to offer personalized help. For example, users can compose and send emails directly from the sidebar, summarize YouTube videos with key points and timestamp markers, or schedule meetings and get daily briefings. Google also said users can access its Nano Banana 2 generative AI tool within Gemini to transform images, such as uploading a room photo to visualize how furniture might look inside it. The company noted that while the feature is expanding internationally, advanced agentic capabilities introduced in January — which allow AI to control the browser and complete tasks — remain limited to U.S.-based AI Pro and AI Ultra users. Additionally, Gemini support in Chrome for iOS is also rolling out in India and will appear through a page tools icon in the address bar.
