Zoom rolls out AI avatars and new productivity tools for meetings and work

Expanding its push into AI-driven workplace tools, Zoom has announced a range of new features, including AI-powered avatars, productivity apps, and meeting tools designed to improve collaboration and automation.

The company confirmed that its AI avatars will be available later this month. These photorealistic avatars were first announced last year and are designed to represent users during online meetings. The avatars can mimic a person’s appearance, facial expressions, lip movements, and eye movements.

According to Zoom, the avatars are useful when users are not “camera-ready.” They can appear in live meetings and also work with the platform’s asynchronous video messaging product.

Alongside this feature, Zoom is introducing deepfake detection technology for meetings. The system will alert participants if there is possible audio or video impersonation during a call.

The company also revealed a new set of AI-powered productivity applications, including AI Docs, Slides, and Sheets. These tools allow users to create document drafts, spreadsheets with data, and presentations by using meeting transcripts and information from connected services. Zoom said these apps will be available as a preview in the spring.

Another major update is the arrival of AI Companion 3.0 in the Zoom desktop app. The tool first launched on the web in September. According to the company, monthly active users of the AI Companion more than tripled in Q4 FY 2026 compared to the previous year.

Zoom’s employee communication app Workvivo will also receive an AI assistant. This assistant can connect with services such as Slack, Salesforce, ServiceNow, Gmail, Outlook, Asana, and Jira, allowing users to ask questions across different knowledge systems.

To support agentic workflows, Zoom is enabling users to create custom AI agents using natural language prompts. After creating them, users can mention these agents in chat to complete tasks.

For developers, the company is releasing speech, vision, and language intelligence APIs that can be deployed either on-premises or in the cloud.

Zoom is also enhancing its chat experience with AI tools that highlight important insights and summarise conversation threads. In addition, the company plans to unify the design across desktop, mobile, and web platforms to make it easier to access AI features such as meeting notes, questions, and transcripts.

Meanwhile, other companies like Canva, startup Context, and Slack are also developing AI-first office software solutions.
