Goa invites feedback on draft AI policy to boost innovation and digital governance

Goa is taking steps to strengthen its digital future by seeking stakeholder feedback on its proposed artificial intelligence framework. The state’s IT department has prepared a draft AI policy and shared it with key stakeholders for suggestions and inputs.

Officials said discussions will continue in the coming weeks with industry leaders, academicians and representatives from the central government. The draft policy centres around the Goa AI Mission 2027, which aims to promote digital innovation, improve governance systems and create new opportunities for start-ups.

IT minister Rohan Khaunte reviewed the draft during a meeting and highlighted the growing importance of artificial intelligence. “Artificial Intelligence is rapidly emerging as a key driver of innovation, governance and economic growth. Goa must adopt forward-looking policies to harness its potential,” he said.

The consultation meeting included Shubham Arora, founder of Sarvam AI, and Kartik Suri from the IndiaAI Mission. Consultants from Grant Thornton also participated in the discussions.

Participants also explored the idea of developing a Konkani Large Language Model to support regional language technology. The proposal could be implemented in collaboration with central government initiatives such as Bhashini to ensure that AI tools remain inclusive and accessible.

During the meeting, stakeholders identified several priority sectors where AI can deliver strong impact. These include public service delivery, tourism, agriculture, healthcare, education and e-governance.

The state has already started introducing AI tools in government services. Earlier this year, the IT department launched an AI-powered chatbot on the GoaOnline platform to improve digital public services.

At the same time, global technology companies are showing interest in the region. US-based firms McLaren Strategic Solutions and Omnumi have recently started operations in Goa and are exploring partnerships with local IT companies.

Officials said feedback from stakeholders will help refine the policy before the final framework is introduced.
