A newly surfaced patent filing indicates that Samsung could be exploring a redesigned clamshell foldable smartphone with two displays on the outer panel. The document, published by the World Intellectual Property Organization, includes several diagrams that hint at a different approach to the external screen design on future Galaxy Z Flip models. However, the filing does not reveal the name of the device or confirm its final specifications.
The patent images suggest a clamshell foldable phone that features a circular cut-out on the front panel, which could house a secondary cover display placed next to the primary outer display. The design also appears to include a dual rear camera system with an LED flash. In addition, the diagrams indicate the presence of two unspecified buttons positioned on either side of the handset, though the patent does not explain their functionality.
If this concept eventually moves into production, it would represent a notable design shift from the current Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7. The existing flagship clamshell foldable in the company’s Galaxy Z lineup features a single 4.1-inch Super AMOLED cover display on the upper flap. The device was launched in India in July 2025 alongside the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7, with a starting price of Rs. 1,09,999 for the 12GB + 256GB storage variant. It is currently available in Blue Shadow, Coral Red, Jetblack, and Mint colour options.
To recall its specifications, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 includes a 6.9-inch Full-HD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X foldable display on the inside with up to 120Hz refresh rate and up to 2,600 nits peak brightness. The smartphone is powered by the Exynos 2500 chipset built on a 3nm process. It comes with 12GB RAM and up to 512GB of internal storage. For photography, it features a 50-megapixel primary camera paired with a 12-megapixel ultra-wide lens. The device is backed by a 4,300mAh battery.
