Intel India and MeitY’s BHASHINI bring on-device multilingual AI to Intel Core Ultra PCs

In a move aimed at strengthening language accessibility through AI, Intel India has partnered with the Digital India BHASHINI Division under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY). The collaboration will enable on-device multilingual capabilities on AI PCs powered by Intel Core Ultra series processors.

As part of this integration, BHASHINI’s Vidyalekha tool will be available on Intel Core Ultra-powered AI PCs. The feature allows real-time translation and transcription across multiple Indian languages.

The initiative is primarily designed for education. Vidyalekha works offline on laptops. It can transcribe English lectures and translate them into a student’s preferred Indian language.

The tool aims to support college students who studied in regional languages and may find it difficult to follow instructions in English.

The collaboration includes optimising BHASHINI and AI4Bharat translation and transcription models to run on Intel’s AI PC xPU architecture. This allows AI workloads to run directly on the device instead of depending on cloud infrastructure.

Running models locally reduces latency and allows the system to function without internet connectivity. It also enhances privacy and data security, as data does not need to be sent to external servers.

The companies showcased automatic speech recognition, text-to-speech, and translation models operating in real time on Intel Core Ultra-powered AI PCs at the India AI Impact Summit 2026 in New Delhi last month.
