A coordinated land deal fraud has been exposed in Meerut, leading to the arrest of 4 members of a gang accused of cheating brokers by collecting advance payments and backing out of agreements. The alleged mastermind, Jashveer Tomar alias Gupta alias Sharma, posed as a wealthy Delhi-based investor to lure victims into high-value land transactions. 2 cases related to the matter were registered at Sardhana police station.
Police said the gang mainly targeted local property brokers and middlemen involved in land deals. Jashveer, a resident of Samaypur Mundali, projected himself as a high-profile buyer ready to invest in large land parcels. On his directions, 2 associates would approach selected brokers, claiming to represent a serious buyer. Complainants Mohit Chaudhary of Noorpur Muradnagar and Amit of Bahadurgarh submitted written complaints describing the fraud. Mohit said he received a call from a person identifying himself as Sharma from Kushawali, who claimed that a wealthy client was willing to buy land at a premium rate. Soon after, 2 men introducing themselves as Rohit and Dheeraj met him to discuss the deal.
Mohit was taken to the residence of Sharma alias Anil in Kushawali, where negotiations were held and the agreement was finalised. The accused allegedly demanded 10% of the total deal value as advance payment to seal the transaction. Trusting their claims, Mohit arranged and handed over the amount. However, after receiving the advance, the accused neither proceeded with the registry nor returned the money. When contacted for updates, they allegedly avoided calls and later stopped responding completely.
Investigations revealed that the so-called buyer and seller were part of the same conspiracy. The middleman was promised a large commission, which encouraged him to facilitate the advance payment. Once the money was secured, the gang would cancel the deal on various pretexts and disappear. Police named Jashveer alias Gupta, Sharma, Deepak alias Rohit, Dheeraj alias Gulhasan, Anil and Anil’s son in the case. Following raids, 4 accused — Gulhasan of Fatehullapur, Jagmohan of Bhamauri Sardhana, Jashveer of Samaypur Meerut and Deepak of Badla Kaithwada Meerut — were arrested. Officials are examining mobile phones and call records to trace more victims. Authorities warned citizens to verify documents and identities before transferring large sums. The accused have been produced before the court and further proceedings are underway.
