IIT Kanpur and HCLTech join hands to accelerate GCC innovation

In a significant step toward strengthening India’s Global Capability Centers (GCCs), Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur and HCLTech have announced a strategic partnership aimed at converting cutting-edge research into real-world solutions.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was announced on February 26, as per press releases. The collaboration was officially launched at the “GCC 4.0” summit held in Hyderabad. It will focus on key areas such as AI, robotics, cybersecurity, and next-generation technologies.

The summit saw participation from over 250 leaders representing GCCs, startups, and the broader technology ecosystem.

Through this partnership, GCCs will be able to access advanced research capabilities and niche skills without the need to set up their own labs. The initiative is designed to speed up innovation cycles by combining HCLTech’s industry expertise with IIT Kanpur’s strong research foundation.

IIT Kanpur Director Manindra Agrawal says this move bridges academia and industry so researchers can tackle real-world challenges with solid support. HCLTech’s Kiran Cherukuri calls it a catalyst for turning big ideas into enterprise-ready solutions faster than ever.

Under this collaboration, researchers will gain direct exposure to real-world business challenges. They will also receive research funding and industry mentorship, enabling faster translation of ideas into practical applications.

The partnership is expected to strengthen the innovation ecosystem for GCCs by aligning academic research with industry needs, and by creating a direct pathway from lab discoveries to enterprise-scale deployment.
