Hyundai Motor Group commits $6.26 billion for AI and robotics expansion in South Korea

In a major push toward advanced technologies, Hyundai Motor Group has signed an agreement with the South Korean government to invest around 9 trillion won ($6.26 billion) in new projects across the country’s western coastal region.

A large share of the investment, about 5.8 trillion won, will be used to build an artificial intelligence data center equipped with 50,000 GPUs. This large-scale infrastructure is expected to significantly strengthen Hyundai’s AI capabilities and digital competitiveness.

Diverse investments

Beyond AI, Hyundai will invest 400 billion won to set up a robot manufacturing facility. The plant will produce different types of robots, including wearable robots.

The company has also allocated 1 trillion won for hydrogen production facilities. In addition, 1.3 trillion won has been earmarked for solar power generation projects.

These investments reflect Hyundai’s strategy to expand beyond traditional automotive manufacturing and move deeper into robotics, artificial intelligence, and renewable energy technologies.

Project background and location

All the projects will be developed in Saemangeum, a large-scale national land reclamation initiative that began over 20 years ago. The project was originally launched to secure farmland. Over time, it has evolved into a plan to develop industrial clusters in a region long considered economically disadvantaged.

Through this multi-sector investment, Hyundai aims to contribute to regional development while accelerating its transformation into a technology-driven industrial group.
