LAT Aerospace acquires Sharang Shakti to boost defence and autonomy capabilities

In a move that signals a sharper focus on indigenous defence technology, a regional aviation startup has expanded its footprint through a strategic acquisition.

LAT Aerospace, a hybrid-electric regional aircraft maker, has acquired Gurugram-based defence robotics startup Sharang Shakti for an undisclosed amount.

Announcing the acquisition in a LinkedIn post, co-founder Karan Goyal said, “This is our first move toward building indigenous defence capabilities alongside our long-term mission of developing next-generation civil aviation platforms from India.”

Goyal noted that civil aviation and defence are often seen as separate sectors, but they rely on a shared core technology stack. He highlighted common areas such as autonomy, perception, sensing, navigation, guidance, and control systems as key overlaps driving the company’s strategy.

LAT Aerospace was co-founded by Goyal in early 2025. He has invested $20 million into the company so far and is currently in talks to raise an additional $50 million, according to reports.

Founded in 2023, Sharang Shakti was started by Karan Goyal, Chirag Singla, Gaurav Kumar, Jitendra Singh, and Rishabh Choudhary. The startup focuses on anti-drone and aerial threat mitigation solutions. Its offerings include drone detection radar and interceptor technologies designed to counter emerging airborne threats.

Through this acquisition, LAT Aerospace aims to strengthen its capabilities across autonomous systems, defence electronics, and aerospace-grade control technologies. The integration is expected to support both defence-focused initiatives and future civil aviation platforms.

LAT Aerospace is currently developing hybrid-electric regional aircraft and vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) platforms to improve regional air mobility. The company had announced its launch in 2024.

This development comes more than a month after Deepinder Goyal stepped down from the role of Group CEO at the parent company of Zomato.
