Suzlon Energy welcomes Ajay Kapur as Group CEO and Key Managerial Personnel

Marking a key step in its ‘Suzlon 2.0’ transformation journey, Suzlon Energy has announced a leadership restructuring, appointing Ajay Kapur as Group Chief Executive Officer and forming a new Group Executive Council (GEC) to drive long-term strategy.

The company’s board approved Kapur’s appointment as Group CEO and Key Managerial Personnel, effective today, 2026. In a regulatory filing, Suzlon said Kapur will lead business transformation as the company expands beyond wind energy into a broader renewable portfolio, including solar, battery energy storage systems (BESS) and emerging technologies.

Kapur brings over 36 years of experience across infrastructure, construction, power and heavy metals sectors. He was previously Managing Director of Ambuja Cements Limited. An economics graduate with an MBA from K J Somaiya Institute of Management and an alumnus of The Wharton School, he has held CEO roles in large listed companies and is known for driving operational scale and financial discipline.

As part of the restructuring, J.P. Chalasani has been elevated to the newly formed GEC and will continue as a Key Managerial Personnel. He will work closely with the Chairman & Managing Director and the Executive Vice Chairman on strategic initiatives, portfolio direction and stakeholder partnerships.

The GEC will function as a strategic body guiding Suzlon’s medium- and long-term growth agenda. An Executive Management Council, led by the Group CEO, has also been established to oversee operational transformation and business execution.

“Suzlon is at a phenomenal juncture today as we embark on the next chapter of our growth. As global energy markets are reinventing and re-calibrating in the face of exponential demand, Suzlon recognizes the immense opportunity as well as responsibility this put on us as a leading player of this sector. We have recently outlined our intent to move beyond wind to a full-stack renewable energy solutions company, thereby unlocking value,” said Girish Tanti, Executive Vice Chairman, Suzlon Group.

“The new structure, J P Chalasani’s elevation, and Ajay’s appointment as Group CEO, are key elements of this transition, which will allow us to give focussed attention to both strategic direction as well as scale-up and management excellence. Ajay’s expertise in building, scaling, and transforming businesses with strong financial performance is just what we need at this stage. I welcome him to the Suzlon family and look forward to exciting times ahead,” Tanti added.

Suzlon currently has approximately 21.5 GW of installed wind energy capacity across 17 countries and operates multiple manufacturing facilities in India.
