Google Pixel 10a debuts with brighter display and bigger battery

Amid a global RAM shortage, Google has introduced the Pixel 10a in India at Rs 49,999, keeping the price unchanged from its predecessor. The upgraded budget smartphone brings improvements to the display and battery life while remaining the most affordable model in the Pixel line-up, positioned below the Pixel 10. Pre-orders are now open and shipments will begin on March 6. The launch comes ahead of Apple’s March 4 event, where the iPhone 17e, a low-cost iPhone for mainstream users, is expected to debut.

The Pixel 10a continues the design language of the Pixel 9a but adopts a “bumpless” look with a flat camera module. It features a 6.3-inch Actua display with up to 3,000 nits peak brightness and a 120-Hz refresh rate, a feature missing on the rival iPhone 16e, soon to be replaced by the iPhone 17e. The phone carries an IP68 rating for water resistance and uses Gorilla Glass (GG7i) for added durability. Google has increased the battery capacity to 5,100 mAh, the largest ever in a Pixel A-series device, promising over 30 hours of usage. It supports 10 W wireless and 30 W wired charging. The device runs on the Tensor G4 processor, paired with 8GB RAM and skips the newer Tensor G5 used in the latest Pixel 10 series. It will be available in Lavender, Obsidian, Fog and Berry.

Google is betting big on AI features with the Pixel 10a. Add Me allows the photographer to swap places and appear in the same image, with software stitching 2 photos together. Camera Coach, first seen on the Pixel 10 series, uses Gemini AI to offer step-by-step photography guidance before capturing a shot. Gemini Live and other AI tools available on premium Pixel devices are also included. The camera setup remains unchanged, featuring a 48-MP primary sensor, 13-MP ultrawide and 13-MP front camera.

While the Pixel 10a does not include advanced features like ProRes Zoom or the high-end optics of the Pixel 10 Pro XL, it plays a key role in expanding Google’s reach in markets like India. Pixel devices also help Google highlight its AI ecosystem and Android software without depending on third-party brands. With less than 3% global market share, Pixel continues to grow in the $300 to $600 segment, largely driven by its A-series models.
