Sanofi plans major expansion of Hyderabad GCC

India continues to attract global investments as multinational companies strengthen innovation and capability centres to support research, technology and business operations worldwide.

Sanofi announced that it will expand its global capability centre (GCC) in Hyderabad, increasing its workforce to more than 4,500 employees. The centre currently employs over 2,600 professionals.

The biopharmaceutical company said the expansion will be backed by a “multi-hundred-million” investment, although the exact amount and hiring timeline were not disclosed. Earlier, in 2024, Sanofi had announced plans to invest €400 million ($474.60 million) in its India GCC by the end of the decade.

Global companies are increasingly establishing GCCs in India, which have evolved from cost-focused back-office units into innovation-driven hubs supporting operations, finance, research and development. India currently hosts more than 1,700 GCCs employing over 1.9 million professionals, according to real estate consultancy Anarock.

The consultancy estimates the GCC market could reach $105 billion–$110 billion by 2030, growing at a 10% CAGR. The number of centres is projected to exceed 2,400, supported by India’s expanding talent pool and diversification across industries.

Sanofi Healthcare India said the new hiring will include specialists across research and development, artificial intelligence and data innovation, data analytics, medical affairs, commercial capabilities and corporate functions.

The announcement comes ahead of the annual BioAsia conference scheduled on February 17–18 in Hyderabad. Senior executives from global pharmaceutical companies including Eli Lilly, Novo Nordisk and Merck are expected to participate and discuss research expansion and the growth outlook for India’s pharma sector.
